PROKERA

Prokera is a cryopreserved amniotic membrane. The tissue is incredibly rich with healing nutrients and proteins that help stem cell and nerve regeneration to heal corneal damage and make your eye stronger.
The amniotic membrane is from a healthy mom, healthy baby, live, consenting, uncomplicated C-section. The tissue goes through exhaustive evaluation to be sure it is clean. There have been no reported adverse events with this type of membrane.
The membrane is attached to a prominent ring. Once the Prokera is inserted, you will have some initial awareness from the ring for the first day. This typically subsides and is very tolerable. The Prokera remains in place for 3-5 days and is then removed in office. You will need a driver for these visits, as you will not see well through the membrane. For this reason, we only place on one eye at a time.
